Gorka Lívia

(Nógrádverőce, 5 March, 1925)

Took a certificate as master potter in 1947. Her master was her father, Géza Gorka. A free-lancing artist, she worked in the Gorka workshop in Verőce until 1959, and in her own studio since then. The source of her art is nature, her typical objects are large asymmetrical vessels, idols, fish, birds, stones. She adopted the pre-wheel archaic technique of working in clay. Creates unique artefacts, prefers series and groups of objects. Makes high-fired items of her own clay bodies, often stoneware. She uses oxide-glaze, combines clay with metals frequently. The palette of her works of powerful plasticity is reserved.
Member ot the Association of Hungarian Artist (1956), The Hungarian Art Fund later MAOE (1955) and IAC, Genf.
